A reader yesterday posted a comment requesting a visual representation of the private streets in Lincoln (those with the blue street signs), so here it is. Please forgive the absence of a scale bar and north arrow, I was in a hurry. The map makes the point from yesterday's post: there really are a lot of them, and the number is growing. You can click the map for a larger view.

Chief, If your worried about to many blue streets, let me remove some from your map. Your map shows Northpark Rd just east of the Airport as a blue road. That is actually a green street, or at least the sign is. The small roads coming off Northpark Rd are also green ie. West Superior,West Kearney,West Luke and Aviation. Just FYI.

I can point out some other examples, and I'm not sure why. Maybe this geographic streets layer isn't really private streets, rather streets not owned by the City. A street owned by the Airport Authority or the University of Nebraska may indeed be a public roadway, just owned by some other governmental entitity than the City of Lincoln. Just a possiblity...
Could it be that the blue streets in the map are strets not maintained by the City of Lincoln?
