Champion

I don't ordinarily do requests, but this one I'm caving into. I have been asked to blog about the City Employees Golf League champion. Decided in a dramatic match yesterday, the Claret Jug went to Lincoln police investigator Bob Hurley.

The word in the squad room is that the winner's purse consisted of a $10 gift certificate. I've teed it up a few times with Investigator Hurley, a big hitter with occasional directional issues that take his ball into unexplored regions from time to time. Bob spent most of 2004-2005 deployed in Iraq, a Major in the Nebraska National Guard. He probably had a little bit of time to work on his sand game.

Well done, Officer Hurley. You make us proud.

I like reading stories like this on your blog. I think it makes your blog very unique. It is nice to read about the fun stuff that you guys do.Of course I also like reading your serious stuff as well.
You really do keep us average citizens informed on what is going on in your department.
I want to congradulate Officer Hurley on winning the Golf tournament. I knew him when he was my Platoon Leader in Seward, NE.

He's probably pretty good with a wedge.

The fun part of golf is driving the cart.

Arrrrg,
I gotta have one of those. Where can I get the plans? Do they have one with a gun rack?

Officer Hurley sounds like he has dedicated his life to protecting our community and country. He is a true hero. Thank you for all you do to keep us safe.

"He probably had a little bit of time to work on his sand game."

Because the good Lord knows he was screwing around there whole time he was over there...

Chief, I'm gonna have to call you out on this one. Pretty demeaning to his service, even if unintentional. How about saying something like "No wonder he has such an aversion to the sand traps"?

Words count.

Come on, Herb. I've got to stick up for the Chief on this one.

Are we really going to wordsmith the daylights out of the Chief's posts? He also mentioned that Hurley has 'occasional directional issues.' So do I. Should I feel slighted for my own erratic golf game?

Take the post as it's meant....a tip of the hat to Bob and a tongue-in-cheek comment to show he cares.

Congrats to Hurley. Thank him for serving the LPD and the DOD. No doubt with distinction in both cases. By the way.....What did you shoot, Chief?

Herb, I'm kidding, obviously, and Bob would certainly know that.

6:45-

I'd shoot 87 if I was playing my usual game at the Highlands. I'd need about 10 strokes from Officer Hurley, I'd say, to make it competitive.

Sorry to be overly sensitive, but to those who have lost a loved one in the war that is taking place "in the sand", there is very little humor available.

On second thought, allow me to retract my apology. I understand the humor, but will not back down on the fact that it is inappropriate. The work done by the troops serving us is too important for that.

Point well made, point conceded.
