Be my Valentine

Suprisingly, when Valentine's Day falls on a Friday, these events are no more numerous than when it falls on a Tuesday.

ASSAULT-DOMESTIC               5
DISTURBANCE-DOMESTIC    7

Not so much "surprisingly", perhaps, as much as "contrary to popular belief". Super Bowl domestic violence is another myth of this type. A lot of people, even many ignorant journalistas in the news media, believe them to be true, not having done any research to see if their beliefs are supported by fact.

12:15,

Quite true! Seems like I pointed that out a few times before, maybe in 2008. I have lots of other examples of the conventional wisdom not quite matching the facts.

Just like how suicide and depression is not more common around the December holidays. I think one reason why the domestic violence myth got started was that domestic violence victims advocates starting using the Super Bowl for awareness campaigns and the ideas got conflated that DV escalates during the Super Bowl.

I have been told that when holidays associated with drinking (like July 4) fall on a Monday and the previous Friday is a pay day, there are more alcohol-fueled issues. But that was told to me by a former 911 employee and had no basis in hard data, it was just what they observed.
