I love to hate you and hate to love you. Is this a healthy relationship Dr. Phill After the puppy love and the first meeting high on love wear off things change. It begins slow and like a speeding train, with the blink of an eye, he is picking his nose. Smelling up the bathroom is no longer a shy act of oops. Passing one for the late night "dutch oven" is late night entertainment and no longer embarassing..digging to pull the under-britches out from the cave they have fell into is an act of public display now. But above all, when one spouse hits another, no matter what, it is OVER!
I don't believe the victim's would refer to their plight as "statistical noise". Anyone in the business would tell you that 4 domestic assaults in a day is too many. This number also represents the assaults that were actually reported. Ya, I'm a cop.
Anonymous 12:09: The fact that you are a cop AND sensitive to domestic assault victims says much about your character. We're glad you're out there for us all.
Nice straw man you set up there; I'm sure it was a breeze to then knock it over. I wrote almost just statistical noise, not just statistical noise. Words mean things. I didn't dismiss the assaults, just their overall significance in the statistical long game. The 4 assaults are undoubtedly significant to those persons involved, but as Director Casady has written before (and I paraphrase), there's nothing of overwhelming statistical significance about one point of data when analyzing crime rates, especially since reported and actual rates are often very dissimilar.
No need for debate, folks. I just thought the incongruity of domestic violence on Valentine's Day was thought provoking-sort of like family fights on Thanksgiving, or Christmas shoplifting.
Apparently, my earlier comment didn't make the post. I was curious if Lincoln's St. Valentine's Day massacre of the penguins was counted in the figures, but unless someone in the owner's family was the culprit, I'm guessing it wasn't.
Now, I don't find any humor in this incident, but if anyone does, ask yourself this: If you reversed the sexes of the assailant and the victim, would you still think it was just as funny? Why not? What does that say about you?
I moderate comments submitted to this blog. I redact profanity, inane off-topic comments, bigoted garbage, personal attacks against others, and anything else I feel like deep sixing. I let a lot of stuff through that does not reflect my own opinion or that of the City of Lincoln or the departments I manage. If you post a comment, you never know where it will go: this is all open to the public, so post at your own risk.

They just didn't give the right Valentine's Day card.

That one seemed to occupy a bit of official attention, though, oddly, none from the press. I know it happened the day before V-day, but still.
Relative to Lincoln's population, that's almost just statistical noise.

Well, here's a definite Valentine's Day domestic assault incident that you may have already seen.
