Street View updated

I noticed that Google has updated the Street View imagery available in Google Maps for Lincoln.  It must be a fairly recent update, because I only noticed it in the past couple of weeks.  Although the update is fresh, the images themselves appear to date from last Spring.  The foliage in my yard suggests that my area of town was driven in April, 2012.

The imagery is not only more recent, but it is also at a greater resolution.  Here's a screen capture looking east from 14th and R.  Note the shadow of the vehicle and camera in the foreground.

And here's a view looking south down 14th Street from R, that emphasizes the high resolution of the images compared to the earlier version, and also proves that a bicycle has actually used that 14th Street bike lane on at least one occasion.

If you look at the shadows thrown by the buildings, trees, and vehicles in these two images, you'll notice that even though they are both taken from approximately 14th and R Street, the view to the east was shot in the late afternoon, and the view to the south was shot early in the morning--though not on the same day.

I noticed the shadows, and I thought it was odd that the pictures were taken from about the same location but at different times of the day. I also noticed from the shadows that it appears the camera truck was on the wrong side of the road when it took the picture looking east down R St. Can you ticket them for that? :-)

I spotted a Google camera "car" last spring at the U-Stop in the Highlands. Took a couple of iPhone images and spoke to the driver/cameraman. He as a contractor from OMA. He as driving a Subaru Impreza five door in base white, festooned with Google graphics. It had quite a phalanx of cameras. Too bad I can't post one of the images.

Did it look something like this?

Yes, how did you attach the image?

I don't know if this is the best or easiest way, but you can post a link to a web page by doing the following:

Type text

Where is says url in quotes, use the actual web address for the page you are linking to, and where is says text, you can type whatever word or words you would like to comprise the link (which will then show up as blue text indicating it is a link). In 8:14'a anonymous post, the words "something like this" would replace the word "text" in the string you would enter into your comment.

It's not an attached image. It's a link of a photo from the Internet.
