Missing mailbox

I warned a couple of weeks ago that thefts of mail sometimes happen during the season when the daily delivery might contain a gift card or a five-spot from Granny.  But never did I dream that this one would occur:

Off topic, but the 24-hour police presence on O Street between 9th and 10th street seems a bit excessive. There were two cruisers there most of yesterday morning and three units there at one point this morning.

Is the LPD presence intended to deter trespassers, to keep an eye out for signs of a fire starting back up, or something else entirely? I realize that the building structure is believed to be unstable, but it seems that the barricades would be sufficient protection.

I'm curious as to whether this is pulling officers from other duties or if extra officers have been brought in to work overtime. Regardless, is the owner of the building responsible for the cost associated with this assignment?

This would be a federal crime, would it not? For that matter, even taking mail from an individual box would be a federal crime, if I'm not mistaken.

Sometimes, though, I wish someone would steal my mail. All I get is either bills or advertising.

Barricades will not stop pedestrians. We're just rotating a couple officers in and out of this assignment from our existing compliment. Hopefully this won't go on much longer. The engineers are concerned about the O Street facade collapsing.

I wish someone would steal my mailbox. I didn't pick it out.

Are you sure that's a mailbox, and not a lunch box? I wouldn't worry too much about your mail anyway. The entire contents of it is composed with a single letter of the alphabet as it was likely written on a pirate typewriter.

Chief,
Does my "egg nog" comment need to be amended to egg on face? More details needed LOL.

As a man who is always thinking, analyzing the world around you and finding ways to change things for the better...I stumbled across this quote and thought of you.
