Other blogs

Someone sent this link to me from another LPD blog--the Lakeland, Florida Police Department. There weren’t many examples when I started writing the Chief’s Corner in April, 2007, but police blogs and chief’s blogs have really picked up since then.

I also caught this recent post by a Better Business Bureau chapter in the St. Louis area, referring to my own post (and the comments that followed) a couple of years ago.

I've really enjoyed reading your blog since I started reading it. I think that it gives us some insight into our city that we wouldn't otherwise get. Thank you.

I've read it much more frequently since I became a fan on facebook. It pops up into my news feed and reminds me that a new story is out. You may consider adding twitter for more of the same.

Off topic Chief but what to you think of Coby Mach's endorsement of you to take over LFR in addition to Chief of Police? Kind of a Public Safety Czar. Any interest? I heard that today on Drive Time Lincoln and wanted to be the first to get your thoughts.

ROFL

So I guess Coby saying that the City could sweeten the pot and throw another $50K a year at you to do this job won't help, huh? Don't blame you. Doesn't seem like near enough aspirin for the headaches

Why are you laughing? Whats so funny?

Out of context, but have you seen pics of the lay-down chuckholes some places use for speed control? I'd send them, but don't know how. Anyway, they look like good idea for awhile, at least, They look impressive.

Got a link? Sounds interesting.

Atticus-

Good to see you're still lurking. Up for another gig in a few weeks? If things work out, I'm going to be taking the 4 day trip of a lifetime to Mullen. Really. Oh, and here's everything I know about firefighting and emergency medical services:

Mullen huh? Sounds exotic. I'd be glad to fill in during your absence. I think Coby was looking more to your management and budgeting skills. Is there more to firefighting than throwing the wet stuff on the hot stuff? Just kidding. No offense to LFR, just a little joke.

CHIEF

HOW DOES SUMMER WARM WEATHER EFFECT THE DOWNTOWN SCENE.. AS WELL IS THE OFFICER DRAGGED BY THE POT SMOKERS ARITCLE OK,

I SEE IN THE ARTICLE HE WAS DRAGGED 20 FEET WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE..AND IS THAT ALLEY A COMMON PLACE FOR SUCH ACTIVITY.

THANKS

Don't forget, the cops usually get there way before LFR does too.

Atticus -

Thanks. If this excursion actually comes off, I'll both post a comment and send an email to your anonymous gmail inbox a few days ahead of time. I think I'll be out of cyberspace, so I won't be able to blog remotely!

The downtown street scene is a year round phenomenon. Only the very worst weather calms it down. Officer Vigil is fine, thanks for asking. His cycling glove got caught on the door frame. Haven't found our suspect yet. The alley is behind a bar, and the downtown bike patrol officers commonly check activity in alleys near bars.

Unfortunately these came by e-mail, so no link. Basically they're street art, lay down sheets that make it look as tho there's a pothole that eats compact cars for breakfast. Several versions in case you have multiple lanes to cover. Very realistic looking, and they're being shown put into place, so they're not someone's pipe dream.

Thanks for the link back to Cops 2.0! I see I've gotten a fair number of hits from it. :) At some point I would like to cover chiefs' blogs. I'm a little bit backlogged as I'm doing this on my own time, but if interested to talk with me, please let me know!
