Curse returns

Last week, I wrote a blog post about the theft of gasoline, noting that the siphoning cases are few--despite the high price of petrol. The second comment on that post contained a link to this Denver Post article. So, guess what happens? Yep, the curse returned. On Monday, we investigated two separate cases where thieves cut into gas tanks to drain away the liquid cash.

These two cases were about a mile apart in northeast Lincoln. The same make and model of vehicle was targeted in both cases. These were both a particular type of commercial van. I believe both were parked on the street. I suspect the suspect has discovered a technique for this specific type of vehicle to make the cut quickly and easily.

To your list of things to watch for, please add legs sticking out from under vehicles in the wee hours. And call us. We clear lots of thefts from autos because watchful citizens saw someone prowling around and picked up the phone.

Sorry to bring on the curse Chief. I'll just stick to posting stuff like this.

Drilling a hole in a gas tank. A little electricity and lot friction around a tank of gas. Now that sounds like a really good idea.

Most gas tanks are aluminum now a days. I guess the old pinto made some one think about steel, sparks and gas. LOL

Boy, think about it and a thief could cash in twice.

If we could just have the criminals take the same amount of time they use on thinking about ways to cheat the system and have them apply that same time to fill out a job application then this city may be better off. Who knows, maybe they would find out ways to better "finance" city projects with their deviant minds.

Have any stolen license plate numbers shown up in connection with any gas drive-offs?

A8-060956 sounds like suspicious persons indeed, especially at 2:30 in the morning, though they were probably hunting for something more solid than fuel.

I have to comment. An officer on the scanner said that "She is a little 38"
What is a "little"?
Is that like being a little pregnant?
The fact is that ALL of us have a few "issues". Is one among us perfect?
So the point is we are ALL a "little" 38.

For the record, most gas tanks are NOT aluminum, plastic or steel baby.

We're all not a 'little' to the same extent... these people are 'a little' to the side that they are potentially dangerous or delirious.... , it's like that girlfriend you used to have, you know the one, she was mostly normal, but a little crazy.... Not enough to put her in the regional center, but enough that you didn't want to keep guns in the house... That's what "a little" means...

Would it be considered out of line if a person were to observe these gas theives in the act and offer them a candle so they could see what they were doing better?

Anonymous said...

Wait...did they have locking gas caps? Why were they cutting into the tanks instead of just siphoning?

Anonymous said...

Probably because you NEVER get gas in your mouth if you cut the tank...

It's faster too.
