Sudden impact

Last Wednesday evening, a bit before 8:00 PM, a finial on the roof of a 10-story downtown building fell without warning to the sidewalk. I'm guessing that the concrete finial is about two feet tall, and around 40 pounds.  The impact left a bit of a crater in the pavement below. Good thing there wan't a pedestrian in the drop zone.  I think that would have left a mark.

That sniper off the roof of DeLeon's probably worked his way downtown and was setting up for something big.

Maybe it is time for a thorough inspection of some of the objects on top of these buildings. There are several things that could be very dangerous if they fell and some of these buildings are approaching 100 years. Nebraska winds can blow trains off the tracks so there could be lots of hazards.
