Re-read it

I re-read this post over the weekend, just to make sure I hadn't had a change of heart on the matter.

No change of heart here. I still think MRDRIVEDRUNK is a whack job.

While I understand your point of view, I don't know that canceling the football game would have been the right thing to do. Yes, I think college football is leaning far too much toward becoming a professional sport. Yet, for most of the players (the ones that weren't five-star recruits headed for the pro draft), it is the love of the game, competition, comradery, and just plain fun that motivates them to dedicate so much of their time to football. To take that away from them, through no fault of their own, would seem to me not only unfair, but perhaps counterproductive.

Had the Penn State players made a decision as a group to refuse to play for an administration that allowed this kind of thing to happen to their fellow players, I would support them and understand. That being said, I think it should have been, and ulitimately is, the players decision to make, and not that of the universities involved or the coaches. If the public (fans) wanted to make some kind of statement, that should have been kept separate from the game itself. Perhaps even a game in a stadium closed to the public would have been a viable solution.

I'm glad they played it since Nebraska won.

Director,
I will be labelled a bigot and homophobe for what I am about to say but I am used to it. The outrage at Penn State was over the actions of a Pedophile. If the boys would have been a few years older it would not have been a crime. There are organizations, NAMBLA for one, that want to remove any age restrictions for "consensual" sex. The camel has his nose in the tent and he is trying to get all the way in. In another thirty years they will probably achieve their goals.

As time passes I am surprised to learn so many people had information about this and did NOTHING! Even Joe P himself.
The death penalty is warranted in this case.
The NCAA has a responsibility to sat an example.
If you permit or have knowledge of staff involved in this kind of activity (sex with children) and you fail to report it, the death penalty is certain. As well as a pink slip.

I sat that this column hits it pretty well. Graham Spanier is one topic addressed. Remember Spanier? If you're a Nebraskan, you should.
